Professional Statement
Mary Kay is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who received her Master’s Degree in Counseling at Oakland University in 2010 and her Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Community Services at Michigan State University. Mary Kay’s previous experiences include working in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Her most recent position was as a Behavioral Health Specialist in a Primary Care Setting, along with 5 years in private practice.
Mary Kay entered the counseling profession to assist others to develop their inner strength and to help them to learn how to love themselves and others unconditionally. She provides therapy for a diverse adult population working with others in a collaborative nature. She counsels adult individuals. Mary Kay’s Catholic faith is what brought her into the Counseling field and often incorporates the exploration of faith to bring a source of comfort and guidance. Mary Kay’s focus is on relationship discord issues, grief and loss, caregiving, anxiety, self-esteem issues, depression, life transitions, and stress
Mary Kay utilizes an eclectic approach but draws heavily from Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Reality Therapy.
Her hobbies and interest include learning more each day about the Catholic Faith, taking long walks with her dog Eli, baking, service to others and watching Spartan games with her husband and son.
